Your Cat's Holiday with a Pet Sitter

Your Cat’s Holiday with a Pet Sitter; get ready with Beaphar

Cats don’t usually like change, and for most, there’s no place like home. Whether you’re getting a trusted pet sitter, or a family member, to look after your cat it’s still not going to be quite the same for them while you’re away.

When preparing to leave your cat at home with a pet sitter, it is a good idea to prepare a home-care kit for them. Such as:

  • Beaphar CatComfort® Calming Diffuser and Spray: to help keep your cat calm.
  • Beaphar Wound Ointment: perfect if there are any little injuries.
  • Beaphar IntestoPro: just in case there are any upset tummies along the way.
  • Beaphar Tick Away: for use on pets and people, should any unwanted ticks appear.
  • Beaphar Pet Behave Spray: in case of any unwanted scratching or chewing in the house.
  • Beaphar Hairball Paste: to aid digestion and help your cat pass any hairballs. Travelling can be stressful for cats, which can sometimes cause over-grooming.
  • Beaphar Dental Treats: for clean teeth and fresh breath.

To give your cat the holiday treat they deserve it’s important to make sure the person looking after them knows everything to help make the transition as smooth as possible. Ideally, discuss things with your pet sitter beforehand and also leave them a note to remind them of important things about your cat. Use the Beaphar Pet Sitter Checklist to make sure you're prepared:

Before you go away

  • Make sure your pet sitter has all the information they need to look after your cat and home.
  • Create an information pack for your pet, including information such as:
  • Your cat’s personality and little quirks
  • Their food (and treat) schedule
  • The last time they had their flea or worm treatment
  • Veterinary contact details
  • Any relevant medical history or medication required while you’re away
  • Microchip information
  • Pet insurance details
  • House rules (Our cat is allowed to sleep anywhere and/or not allowed in the bedrooms …)
  • The address of where you’re staying and a contact number
  • Emergency contact details, other than yourself
  • Plug in a Beaphar CatComfort® Calming Diffuser in the room your cat spends most of their time, and/or check that there is a new refill reservoir for the pet sitter to replace when the current one is empty. One diffuser covers a 70m² space.
  • If your cat is on any medication, make sure they have enough to last while you’re away.
  • Ensure your contact information for their microchip is up to date.

The day you leave

  • Use the Beaphar CatComfort® Calming Spray on your cat’s bed and favourite sleeping area to help them feel reassured whilst you’re packing to leave. Cats often don’t like change and can find it very stressful when we are packing to go away.
  • Confirm what time the pet sitter is arriving and ensure your cat has sufficient food and water to last until they arrive.
  • If your cat is an indoor cat, make sure all the windows are shut.
  • Leave your pet’s information pack somewhere visible for the pet sitter.

When you arrive

  • Inform the pet sitter that you have arrived safely at your destination.
  • Enjoy your holiday!
