Your Cat’s Staycation; get ready with Beaphar

There are plenty of pet-friendly holidays that you can take your cat on in the UK. When preparing to take your cat on holiday with you, it is a good idea to pack a travel kit for them. Such as:

  • Beaphar CatComfort® Calming Diffuser and Spray: to help keep your cat calm.
  • Beaphar Wound Ointment: perfect if there are any little injuries.
  • Beaphar IntestoPro: just in case there are any upset tummies along the way.
  • Beaphar Tick Away: for use on pets and people, should any unwanted ticks appear.
  • Beaphar Pet Behave Spray: in case of any unwanted scratching or chewing in the house.
  • Beaphar Hairball Paste: to aid digestion and help your cat pass any hairballs. Travelling can be stressful for cats which can sometimes cause over-grooming.
  • Beaphar Dental Treats: for dental care away from home.

When you're holidaying with your pet there is a lot to pack.

Use the Beaphar Staycation Checklist to make sure you're prepared.

Before you go away

  • Leave the cat carrier out in the house with a blanket or their favourite toy, you could also feed them one of their meals in the carrier, to help them form a relaxed and positive association with being in there.
  • Use the Beaphar CatComfort® Calming Spray in your cat's carrier. Each application lasts up to five hours, but be sure to never use the spray while your cat is inside the carrier.
  • Always make sure you pack any medication your pet may be taking and ensure your contact information for their microchip is up to date.

The day you leave

  • Use the Beaphar CatComfort® Calming Spray in your cat's carrier 15 minutes before putting them in, to keep them calm during your journey.
  • Pop in some of your cat's favourite toys or blanket with them.
  • Ensure your cat has access to water right until you set off. Most cats won't drink while they are travelling, but it's still important to make sure they still have access to water, especially if it's a long journey or a hot day. Bowls that clip onto the inside of the carrier are ideal as you can top them up from the outside.
  • Some cats get nauseous whilst travelling, so it may be best to avoid giving them a big meal before leaving. Never put any treats or food in the carrier as there is a small risk of them choking whilst you're driving.
  • Check the car isn't too hot, your cat has enough shade and stop regularly to check they're OK.
  • Do not leave your cat in the car unattended, even in their carrier, as they could quickly become overheated.

When you arrive

  • Plug in a Beaphar CatComfort® Calming Diffuser into an open area in your accommodation, or the room your cat will spend most of their time in. One diffuser covers a 70m² space.
  • The diffuser takes up to 24 hours to distribute around the room so it's a good idea to use the Beaphar CatComfort® Calming Spray as well on the first day to help your cat feel safe and reassured.
  • Spray some Beaphar Pet Behave Spray on furniture you suspect they may want to sharpen their claws on.
