An early formulation of Beaphar Lactol can be traced back to the early 20th century, where it is mentioned in dog books alongside pictures of healthy, happy puppies and their champion Mums.

Beaphar Lactol’s popularity has remained consistent throughout its 100 year history. It was even featured on the front cover of the Crufts catalogue between 1926 and 1932, showing that is has been trusted and relied upon by generations of breeders. Today, it remains a popular choice.

Throughout its 100 year history, Beaphar Lactol has constantly been developed and improved to provide kittens and puppies with the best start in life. In 2010, Beaphar Kitty Milk was introduced to the UK market, which was tailored specifically to the needs of kittens, and included higher protein levels and taurine.

The whole milk we use to make Beaphar Lactol comes from British cows. This milk is collected and transported to production sites, where the whey protein is extracted. Unlike skimmed milk powder, whey protein powder is a more concentrated source of essential amino acids, highly digestible and contains bioactive proteins – this makes it a superior protein source.

A low temperature drying process is used to ensure that the proteins aren’t damaged, while ultrafiltration means all the goodness is concentrated in the final product. Low temperature evaporation has been shown to produce up to 10% better growth than powder dried in conventional ways. This means that Lactol powder is more nutritionally valuable, and will give young pets the best start in life.
