When you're holidaying with your pet there is a lot to pack. Use the Beaphar Staycation Checklist to make sure you're prepared:
Before you go away
- Be sure to check with your destination if you need to provide a hutch, a run and hay for your bunny while you’re away.
- If you have a house rabbit, leave the carrier out in the house with some of their bedding, you could also feed them one of their meals in the carrier, to help them form a relaxed and positive association with being in there.
- Use the Beaphar RabbitComfort® Calming Spray in your rabbit’s carrier. Each application lasts up to five hours, but be sure to never use the spray while your rabbit is inside the carrier.
- Always make sure you pack any medication your pet may be taking and (if they are microchipped) ensure your contact information is up to date.
- Apply Beaphar Fly Guard to prevent blow fly strike on your rabbit. One application lasts up to three months.
The day you leave
- Use the Beaphar RabbitComfort® Calming Spray in your rabbit's carrier, 15 minutes before putting them in, to keep them calm during your journey.
- Pop in some of your rabbit's favourite toys or blanket with them.
- Ensure your rabbit has access to hay and water at all times. A water bottle should be secured to the front of the carrier.
- Check the car isn't too hot, your rabbit has enough shade and stop regularly to check they're OK.
- Do not leave your rabbit in the car unattended, even in their carrier, as they could quickly become overheated.
- Give your rabbit a Beaphar Crunch Stick to keep them entertained during the journey.
- Apply Beaphar Eye Gel to both of your rabbit’s eyes to help prevent any irritation that could occur from the hay and bedding in their carrier.
When you arrive
- Plug in a Beaphar RabbitComfort® Calming Diffuser into an open area in your accommodation, or the room your rabbit will spend most of their time in. One diffuser covers a 70m² space.
- The diffuser takes up to 24 hours to distribute around the room so it's a good idea to use the Beaphar RabbitComfort® Calming Spray as well on the first day to help your rabbit feel safe and reassured.
- Reapply Beaphar Eye Gel to help soothe their eyes, which may be dry and irritated from being in the car.
- Use Beaphar Cage Fresh Granules in your rabbit’s temporary hutch, underneath their normal bedding, to help reduce the smell around their cage or hutch, which will also help to decrease the attraction to flies and reduce the risk of flystrike.
- Ensure your rabbit has plenty of fresh hay, water and their normal pelleted food, such as Beaphar CARE+®.
