How to kill fleas with FIPROtec® COMBO

Protect your pet and your home with Beaphar FIPROtec® COMBO

Keeping your pet flea-free is not just about treatment when an infestation strikes. It is just as important to keep your pet protected before these critters set up camp. What’s more, it’s not just fleas that cause your furry best friend aggravation. Warmer weather and exploring the outdoors, also means that ticks and biting lice are on the prowl too.

With products such as Beaphar FIPROtec® COMBO, not only can you kill adult fleas on your pet, you can also prevent flea eggs and flea larvae developing in your home. At the same time, it is working to keep ticks and biting lice at bay, which can be very uncomfortable for your pet.

What is Beaphar FIPROtec® COMBO?

Beaphar FIPROtec® COMBO is a vet strength, spot-on medicine that is referred to as a “combination” flea treatment. It not only protects your pet from fleas, it also targets your home, preventing a strike before it takes over your home. . .

With 95% of an untreated flea infestation is in the environment, it is important to break the flea life cycle, from egg to larvae and pupae stage, targeting each developmental stage both on your pet and in your home.

Beaphar FIPROtec® COMBO contains Fipronil and S-methoprene. Fipronil is an insecticide that kills the adult fleas. S-methoprene is an Insect Growth Regulator (IGR), which affects flea eggs and flea larvae, preventing them from developing further, preventing future outbreaks. Consistent use will also keep the fleas away, your home protected and your pet will be happier.

How does Beaphar FIPROtec® COMBO work?

Beaphar FIPROtec® COMBO is non-systemic, meaning the active ingredients are not absorbed into the bloodstream. Parasites are killed when they come into contact with the active ingredients. This could be on the skin’s surface or in your pet’s coat.

Fipronil

When an adult flea, tick or biting louse comes into contact with Fipronil, it quickly affects their nervous system. The parasite briefly becomes more active before being killed and it can sometimes appear that there are ‘more fleas’ on your pet. But rest assured, this is part of the treatment process of attacking the critters.

S-methoprene

S-methoprene an Insect Growth Regulator. IGRs mimic a parasite’s own growth hormones, tricking their body into thinking it can’t develop to the next stage of the life cycle. As the parasite is unable to develop further, it ultimately dies.

S-methoprene works to protect both on your pet and in your home pre-coating any hair shed by the pet.

The adult female flea absorbs S-methoprene through cuticles on her legs, which affects her reproductive system. If she is able to lay eggs before being killed by the Fipronil, these immature eggs will be unable to hatch.

Any fully developed eggs which haven’t been affected by S-methoprene will be coated in it as they fall through the fur. Larvae that hatch from S-methoprene coated eggs will die soon afterwards.

Flea larvae that hatch from unaffected eggs will feed on the S-methoprene coated skin cells and hair from your pet. The flea larvae will die soon afterwards. Some flea larvae may be able to spin themselves into the pupal cocoon. But, because they’ve ingested S-methoprene, they will be unable to develop and ultimately die.
