Beaphar Lactol - giving puppies tender loving care right from the start

During the first few weeks of a puppy’s life, good nutrition is essential. Puppies are born ‘incomplete’ – their eyes are closed and they can’t hear. In order for these senses and the rest of their bodies to grow and develop correctly they need the right nutritional building blocks. These building blocks can be found in maternal milk, after all that is what it’s designed for, however sometimes it may be necessary to feed puppies a milk replacer. Large litters, exhaustion or, unfortunately, Mum not making it through the birthing process, are all reasons why owners may find themselves searching for a milk replacer to feed their puppies.

Why choose Beaphar Lactol Puppy Milk?

Beaphar Lactol Puppy Milk is a complete milk replacer that has been produced for over 100 years, and during that time it has saved the lives of countless young animals. Designed to closely resemble natural bitch’s milk, Beaphar Lactol Puppy Milk contains easily digestible, high quality proteins, as well as essential vitamins and minerals .

Throughout its 100 year history, Beaphar Lactol Puppy Milk has been developed to make sure it provides puppies with the best start in life, and in 2018 we will upgrade to our most advanced formulation yet.

Beaphar Lactol Puppy Milk has been used and trusted by breeders for generations. Beaphar Lactol is made from whey protein powder which is naturally rich in essential amino acids and highly digestible. This means that puppies are able to absorb and utilise the nutrients they need more easily than other milk replacers that are made from skimmed milk powder. To improve digestibility further, during the production process Beaphar Lactol is dried at a low temperature; high temperature drying can damage the delicate and vital protein molecules, making the resultant product far less nutritionally-valuable than Beaphar Lactol.

Always striving to make sure Beaphar Lactol provides the best  start in life, our formula is constantly developing, and to celebrate 100 years of Beaphar Lactol we’re providing our most advanced formula yet.

Beaphar Lactol Puppy Milk now includes DHA (Docosahexaenoic acid).

The Importance of DHA

DHA is an omega-3 fatty acid. It is naturally present in maternal milk and is essential for the development of cognitive function and vision. This means it also has the potential to help improve trainability, obedience and socialisation in puppies.

By including DHA in Beaphar Lactol Puppy Milk, we are making certain that puppies are being given the best nutritional building blocks to help them develop into healthy, happy dogs.

The Best Nutrition for Mother and Puppies

As well as being suitable for newborn puppies, Beaphar Lactol Puppy Milk can also be given to Mother Dogs.

During both the later stages of pregnancy and nursing, Mother Dogs need more energy and key nutrients than they would day-to-day. Regular adult dog food often doesn’t contain the required nutritional support Mum needs to meet the increasing demands placed on her body as she goes through pregnancy.

Many people suggest feeding your dog high quality puppy food, as this formulated specifically for growing puppies and so contains everything Mum needs for a healthy pregnancy and healthy puppies. This should be introduced gradually by mixing a small amount of puppy food with her regular adult food to help her tummy adjust.

While a pregnant dog’s appetite can increase, you may also find she’s reluctant to eat as she gets closer to giving birth. As Beaphar Lactol Puppy Milk is liquid, you may find that your dog finds this easier to manage rather than solid food.

Good nutrition for both mother and puppies is essential, both during and after pregnancy. If you are worried or unsure about what to feed your pregnant dog or how much she is eating, you should bring this up with your vet during your consultation.

During the weaning process, Beaphar Lactol Puppy Milk can also be mixed with solid puppy food to help puppies adjust to a more solid diet. As they get older the amount of Beaphar Lactol can be reduced and the amount of puppy food increased until puppies are on a solid diet. Similarly, you can reduce the amount of Beaphar Lactol and puppy food given to Mother Dogs during weaning, gradually introducing her back to her regular diet.
